Budget-Friendly RV Resorts in Florida: Our Experience at Little Willie’s RV Resort

When looking for a place to hunker down for the heart of winter, we wanted to be in southern Florida so we’d have the best chance of avoiding freezing temperatures. Despite starting our search in May, it proved difficult to find a place near the coast. Places were either booked up or very expensive. So, I began looking inland and as I did, the prices dropped and some still had availability.

That’s how we found Little Willie’s RV Resort in Arcadia, FL. It turned out to be a fantastic find. The price was great and the RV community there was amazing. The town of Arcadia and its residents were extremely welcoming as well. It turned out to be just the place we needed for a month long stay. Isn’t it amazing how God puts you exactly where you need to be?

Cost

As always, I’ll start with cost first. When looking closer to the coast, I was finding rates for $2,500/ month up to over $3,000/month. That is very much outside of our budget. Just 45 minutes in land was Little Willie’s RV Resort and they offered a monthly stay for $825 plus a flat rate of $75 for electricity. $900/ month was exactly what we were looking for.

Amenities

At $900/month we weren’t expecting it to be a luxurious resort despite the name having “resort” in it, but it still exceeded our expectations. The main attraction for us was the pool. We knew that even with no playground, our son would not only have fun but would also burn off his energy swimming in the pool. The weather turned out to be perfect and the water was always nice and warm (it may have been heated).

In addition to the pool, they had a full game room with a pool table, Skee-Ball, ping pong, putting green, and more. If it was a rainy day, the game room was a great place to spend some time playing and having fun together. All the games were free too, even better.

They also had food trucks on different days of the week. Outside the clubhouse was a board with the schedule for the trucks. We tried the wood fired pizza truck; it was very good. I wish we had tried the others, especially the BBQ truck, but per usual, we forgot until it was too late.

They offered a good-sized laundry room right next to the clubhouse/ game room. All the machines worked great, and it was always clean and well maintained. It was also located near the pool, so you could take a swim while doing laundry.

Sites

Every site at Little Willie’s RV Resort offers full hookups. Our site offered, 50 amp only but some offer 30 amp as well. All the hookups were close to the rig, so no extensions were needed for anything. Our sewer connection wasn’t threaded and at an angle, so I needed a rock to keep it down. Other than that, the site was perfect.

Cows behind our site.

Each site comes with a concrete patio. The rigs are parked on a grass surface next to the patio. Our site had a concrete spot for our truck. Not every site has the concrete spot, but all have space for a vehicle.

The sites were relatively close together but not the closest we’ve experienced. Coming from Long Pine Key it felt very close but after a couple of days we realized it was a good amount of space. We had green space next to the patio and room behind the rig.

The best part about our site (215) was the working ranch/ farm behind us. We had cows right behind our rig on some days. If they weren’t behind us, they were across the street from the campground. We would hear them “mooing” quite often which we found to be really cool.

None of the sites come with a picnic table or a fire ring. You can use your own fire ring if you have one though. We used our propane fire place which we love because we can turn if off when we’re done and no smoke (best part).

Location

Little Willie’s RV Resort is in Arcadia, Florida. It is about 45 minutes from Port Charlotte, an hour from Fort Myers and an hour from Venice. We visited both Port Charlotte and Venice while we were in Arcadia. The drives were all back roads and no interstates. It was a pleasant drive in our opinion. The longer drives were worth it when considering the prices of the RV parks closer to those areas.

More cows behind our site

The town of Arcadia had everything we needed. Walmart Supercenter, Publix, Tractor Supply, and several different restaurants, both fast food and sit down. They also had a local market called K&J Homegrown Produce. They had fresh produce and fresh meats for really good prices.

While we were in Arcadia, we needed an oil change for the truck and there was a Ford dealership in town as well. They also had a Chevy, GMC, and Dodge dealership.

My son and wife visited the local library, and the librarians were so helpful with giving us ideas for things to do with our son. Every resident we interacted with were friendly, helpful, and just overall very kind. It made our stay super enjoyable and memorable.

Cons

One of the cons I have for the Little Willie’s RV Resort is the lack of playground. However, keep in mind that the resort was an adult only resort for a long time and just recently became a family friendly resort. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a playground in the future.

The only other con I have is the lack of camp store and propane filling. If you’re there long term, there is an outside company that comes once a month for propane refills. Unfortunately, we ran out a couple of days after his visit and needed it refilled before his next visit. Not a huge deal, the Tractor Supply was only 15 minutes away.

Also, the lack of camp store wasn’t a huge deal either. There is a Dollar General almost across the street so getting quick, last-minute items was easy and avoided the 15-minute drive into town.

Conclusion

As you can see, my cons are a stretch. We really enjoyed ourselves at Little Willie’s RV Resort. Like I said before, the community of people in the resort were super friendly and welcoming. Everybody said hi. Our neighbors who were wintering there from Missouri came over the day after we arrived and introduced themselves. That was the first time we’ve had that happen to us. It was really nice to say the least and made us feel right at home.

While we were there, our son who is a cub scout back in Massachusetts, joined the pack in Arcadia for the month. They too were very welcoming as were all the parents. The community was simply amazing.

If you’re looking for a place in southwest Florida that’s not going to cost you an arm and leg to stay, I highly recommend Little Willie’s RV Resort.
