Our Family Adventures at Fiddlers Green RV Ranch: A Personal Campground Review

We traveled to central Florida twice in the 2025 winter season. The first time we stayed at Wekiva Falls RV Resort. You can read that review here. The second time we chose to stay at Fiddler’s Green RV Ranch in Altoona, Florida. I am so glad we stumbled upon it because it was a fantastic stay.

We only needed a two week stay close to Apopka. We wanted to visit friends and family one more time before leaving Florida and starting our summer itinerary up the east coast. Fiddler’s Green RV Ranch fit the bill for both location and price.

Cost

Cost was the biggest factor for us choosing Fiddler’s Green RV Ranch. Despite it not being as close to family in Apopka as Wekiva Falls was, the cost was drastically better. For two weeks we spent, $619 and that includes all taxes and fees. If you RV Florida in the winter, you probably already know, this was a great price.

This view from the front of our site was beautiful and relaxing.

In comparison, Wekiva Falls would have cost us $900 for the same amount of time and that’s not including taxes and fees. For the difference of $300 and 10 minutes in drive time, Fiddler’s Green RV Ranch was a clear winner.

Amenities

There is a big difference in the amenities offered and this is where the price comes into play. Wekiva Falls was built for family fun. Pool, lagoon with water slide, playground, and more. Fiddler’s Green RV Ranch had none of that. It’s a campground made for equestrians and their horses. They provide stables and areas for horse trailers. The property sits just outside the Ocala National Forest which provides miles of equestrian trails.

Stables for the guests with horses.

Fiddler’s Green RV Ranch has two laundry buildings, each with one washer and one dryer. For reference, the campground only has about 20 sites, so we never had an issue with high demand.  Both machines worked great and the buildings they were in were always clean and well maintained.

They also had a recreation building. Inside was a ping pong table and lots of board games. There was also a little library and some chairs to read at. Just outside the building was a basketball court (half court). The hoop and backboard needed some repair, but we used it nonetheless and kept ourselves entertained.

There was also a lot of green space for our son to run around. He met a friend while we were there and they had a blast flying kites, foam airplanes, playing with toy trucks and more. Give kids a green space and they’ll figure out how to have fun.

Sites

All sites at Fiddler’s Green RV Ranch were full hookup. They offered 50 and 30 amp electric, and the utilities were all close to the rig so no need for extensions. Each site had a picnic table and a fire ring, and all the sites were long enough for any size rig

Looking into our site. It was tight but with the view and space in front, it wasn’t a big deal.

The sites were all grass but even with a few rainy days, there were never any puddles. They were somewhat level as well. We did have to come up about an inch on our passenger side. I will say that the sites are rather close together. Our slide came out just shy of our neighbor’s dog fence.  Luckily both our neighbors were very nice and friendly.

Even though the sites are tight side to side, there is an enormous amount of space in front of your rig so you’re not looking at another RV. Instead, you look out at the pond on the property. I would set my chair up in front of the site and look out at the pond, so the closeness didn’t bother me at all.

Location

Fiddlers Green RV Ranch is in Altoona, Florida. It’s about an hour to the Orlando attractions like Disney and Universal. It’s about 45 minutes to Wekiwa Springs State Park and 20 minutes to Mt. Dora. Mt. Dora is where we did most of our grocery shopping and errands.

We went to Daytona Beach for a day and that took us just over an hour to get to. So, yes everything is a little further away but even the cost of extra fuel didn’t add up to our savings on our nightly rate making it well worth it.

Like I stated above, Ocala National Forest is just outside the campground. If you’re looking to get away from the cities and explore nature, Fiddler’s Green RV Ranch is a perfect spot for that. Most of the campgrounds in the national forest are dry camping so you can’t get much closer with full hookups than this campground.

Cons

My only con for our stay is one I already mentioned, space between sites. Like I said though, there is so much room in front of the site, that it really didn’t matter that much. Backing in was super easy because of that space and relaxing was great looking out at the pond. Our neighbors were great. They weren’t noisy so even though we were close, we were never bothered.

Conclusion

The owner Jen was an incredible host. She gave us a full tour of the grounds after we backed in and set up. She encouraged us to visit the horses and pet them so they could get lots of love while the horses were there. She showed us their butterfly garden, cabin, and all the stables they provide. It was by far the best welcome we have gotten since we started RVing.

When we go back to central Florida, there is a very, very good chance we stay at Fiddler’s Green RV Ranch. The price was perfect, and the location was good for what we wanted to do in the area. The only thing that might make us choose somewhere else are kid friendly things like playgrounds and pools. Even then, our family has a pool so that may not even come into play at all.

If you’re looking for an affordable campground in Central Florida and don’t mind driving a little further for the touristy things and don’t mind minimal amenities, then I highly recommend Fiddler’s Green RV Ranch.

I hope you all enjoyed this review. If you did, you can give it a like below. You can also watch our YouTube videos on our time in Altoona below.

Until next time, God bless and stay safe!
