Traveling down I-81 through Virginia, we stumbled upon Natural Bridge, VA. We were intrigued to stop after seeing that it had a beautiful state park. The state park has a natural bridge formation of which the town was named after. We decided we wanted to make it a multi-day stop on our way to Texas from Massachusetts. Finding a campground turned out to be easy as well. The Natural Bridge/ Lexington KOA Holiday was right off the highway and only 9 minutes to the state park.
Located off exit 180B on I-81 south or 180 on I-81 north, the campground is very easy to get to. If you’re coming from I-81 south, you immediately cross the state road after exiting the highway. Then, you arrive at the campground. It honestly doesn’t get any easier than that. From the I-81 north, you take a left onto the state road. Then, you take another left about 1/4 mile down the road to enter the campground.
Due to its convenience to the interstate, the Natural Bridge/ Lexington KOA Holiday is a perfect spot for a quick, one night stay. However, I would urge you to stay at least two nights as there is plenty to do within 10 minutes of the campground. You can read my post on Natural Bridge, here. You can also view our video on our time there below.
Fees
Our three-night stay came to $65 a night. This includes taxes and our 10% discount for being KOA rewards members. This also included the extra $3 per night charge for a child. The site we selected was a pull through site with water/ electric only, which saved us about $10 a night. I felt it was worth it since we carry a Camco portable holding tank anyway.
Amenities
As with most KOA’s there were plenty of things for families to do while in the campground. They had pool (closed for the season during our stay), a game room, basketball court, and a playground to name a few. They also had a big dog park that we didn’t take advantage of, but it looked cool.

In the center of the campground was the store. Behind the store was the game room, pavilion, and one of two laundry rooms. The other was located near the playground and dog park, so no matter what site you’re in, you’re not too far away from a laundry room. The laundry rooms were clean, and coin operated. They were not open 24 hours, but they were open a good number of hours.
In the same two building with laundry, were restrooms and showers. The cabins were located near these as well. Some of the cabins don’t have showers, so they are placed conveniently near these facilities. The tent sites are also nearby.
Sites
Some of the sites came with the standard KOA deluxe patio with concrete parking pad, grill, and patio furniture. All the other sites had a gravel parking pad and patio area with a firepit and picnic table. The campground is built on a hillside, but all the sites were level enough. We had to use our Anderson levelers, and came up a good amount on our passenger side.

The site was spacious enough from our neighbor on our camp side. It was a little deceiving because were higher up than them. On our drives side, our neighbor was close by, but it was an average distance compared to other RV parks and other KOA’s. Honestly, it was a good space considering they were pull through sites which I find are usually closer together.
The water pressure was pretty good, and the hookup was close to our rig. The electric was 50 and 30 amp, and it was also located close to the rig. As I mentioned, ours was a water/ electric site only, but the sites that had full hookups, the sewer was close by as well. For us, the dump station was at the front of the campground. I think it was totally worth the $30 in savings to tow our holding tank down the hill to the dump station.
Things To Do Nearby
As I mentioned above, you can read my post on things to do in the area. However, to name a few there is the Virginia Safari Park which is literally right next door to the campground. You could walk there if it wasn’t a drive through safari.
The state park visitors center is located just five miles (nine minutes) away as well. There you can take a hike to the natural bridge formation and Lace Falls. After paying your daily fee, you can also drive a short distance to a few other trailheads as well.

On the way to the state park, you pass by the Natural Bridge Zoo as well as The Caverns at Natural Bridge. Both were closed for the season when we visited in November of 2024. Be sure to check out their websites before planning your trips.
The campground is surrounded by the George Washington and Thomas Jefferson National Forests. When we go back, I want to spend more time hiking the many trails the national forest has to offer.
Not far down the road is Shenandoah National Park. It’s 55 miles and 50 minutes from the campground. There are most definitely campgrounds closer but being under and hour from the national park is still pretty good. Plus, you get the benefit of having the national forest to explore in the same trip without having to move your rig.
Cons
As always, I try to be fair and tell you things we didn’t like about our stays. I don’t have much for this KOA to be honest. However, since I have to think of something, I would have to say it’s the fact that the sites were close together.

Again, we’ve stayed at places with less room, so it wasn’t terrible. However, given the peaceful settings on being on a mountainside, it would be nice to have more space between you and your neighbors.
Conclusion
We really enjoyed our stay at the Natural Bridge/ Lexington KOA Holiday. The campground was super clean, the staff very friendly, and the setting was very peaceful. Despite being so close to I-81, we barely heard the traffic noise when outside and it was almost nonexistent when we were inside the RV.
As with most KOA’s there was plenty of things for our son to do while we were enjoying the campground itself. As full timers, we are always appreciative of clean and convenient laundry rooms.
The best part was the convenience to all the attractions nearby as well as the easy on/ off access from the interstate. If you’re traveling down I-81 I highly recommend the Natural Bridge/ Lexington KOA Holiday. Whether it’s for a one-night stop or a vacation, this KOA is a great place to park your home on wheels. If you don’t have an RV or tent, the cabins are beautiful and a great alternative to hotels and Airbnb’s.
